Lyndhurst was established as a wheat farm in the early 1960's by Mr. Jock Peill, an immigrant farmer from West Germany who had apprenticed in agriculture in Bavaria.
Confident that wheat could be grown successfully in Nova Scotia, Mr. Peill began experimenting with several different varieties. He discovered that wheat provided good yields and fit the crop rotation. This led to a search for more suitable varieties, re-establishing ties with Europe, and Lyndhurst began importing and testing European wheat varieties for their climatic adaptability and baking performance.
Lyndhurst expanded in 1991 with the installation of milling equipment imported from Europe. This development led to the ability to produce Natural Grain Products.
"Lyndhurst
is where the seed is grown
that seeds the crops that grow on the farm where the stonemill stands that Jock built."
